News coming out of the Missouri Athletic Commission on Wednesday night has Missouri promoters highly upset - in a letter sent out by Executive Director Tim Lueckenhoff, hikes in fees and surcharges were announced. The MAC regulates all amateur and professional boxing, full-contact karate, MMA, kickboxing and wrestling events - permits will now cost $150 per day per event effective April 30th. Amateur contestant licenses will increase from $30 to $40, seconds from $20 to $30, boxing & MMA ID cards from $15 to $20 for two years starting July 1st to June 30th, 2024. A one dollar surcharge will be applied to every ticket sold including comps starting July 1st. Lueckenhoff states this is only the second fee increase the MAC has made in the last 27 years and the increases were needed due to the decline of yearly revenue in the past two years. This of course is due to COVID and far fewer events happening as a result. The MAC is fee funded and are not allocated funds by the state where fees are set to cover the MAC's annual expenses. Fees are not to exceed 2.5 times their annual budget.
